September 2022 Report
Spring is in the air which for me personally, brings with it a breath of fresh air and a sense of optimism.
Our new menu is now on offer and I invite you to come in and try the new food combinations which, as always, are very tasty and certainly very filling! Along with a new menu, the restaurant has new opening hours. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 11am – 2pm; Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays: 4pm – 9pm. (We are closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.)
The August/September winner of our children’s colouring competition has been selected and has won a fun prize from the club. A new image for October is now available. A reminder that pictures must be coloured-in by children whilst at the Club and all entries are displayed in the restaurant. At the end of each month, a winner will be selected by Polonia’s kitchen staff. Entry forms are available from the staff. Happy colouring, and thank you to all the children who take part!
Our next Market Day will be on Saturday, 8th October and as usual, doors will open to the public at 9am and we will be open until 1pm (or until sold out). This month however, we will have a live music attraction to entertain you in the beer garden as you enjoy beverages and krańskis; the downstairs bar open from 10am. Our range of stalls will feature regular favourites and the Polonia restaurant will be open from 11am until 2pm and then again from 4pm until 9pm. Date claimer: Due to unforeseen circumstances, the date of the Annual General Meeting of Polonia has been moved to Sunday, 30th October, 2022. According to our Constitution, Management Committee members serve a two-year term and this year is not an electoral year in terms of voting members to positions on the Management Committee. However, the existing Management Committee is seeking to expand our numbers in order to better handle our significant workload. Therefore, there will be a formal motion at the AGM to add two new committee positions (Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer) and we are currently calling for expressions of interest for these roles. The Assistant Secretary will have a primary focus on taking meeting minutes, with some additional clerical duties. The Assistant Treasurer will have a primary focus on grant sourcing and application writing. Both roles require a high degree of fluency in written and spoken English. According to our Constitution, only Ordinary and Life members are eligible for election to the Management Committee, therefore we invite eligible members interested in either of these roles to submit a covering letter and CV to the Secretary ([email protected]) no later than Sunday, 16th October. If you have any questions or would like additional information about the proposed roles, please contact the Secretary.
With the AGM approaching, it is vital that you renew your Polonia membership! Not only does this allow you to keep enjoying discounts and other member benefits, it also allows you to vote at the AGM.According to our Constitution, while all members can attend an AGM, only Life Members and Ordinary members with paid up dues are eligible to vote at the AGM. You will be able to renew your membership at the AGM prior to the commencement of the meeting, however, we encourage you to renew prior to the AGM if possible. Information about renewing your membership is available on our new website. Click here for “Membership”. Thank you to all members who have renewed thus far – your financial support helps us to realise important improvements to the Club’s infrastructure.
If you are looking for a venue for a Christmas party (or something else), please consider booking the Polish Club. We offer great meals and drinks at reasonable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. We can cater from 2 to 200 people with free parking for patrons. For function enquiries, call 3369 2747 or email: [email protected]
In closing, I wish to sincerely thank Ann and Stan Macionis for their delightful letter of thanks and encouragement to the Management Committee and for their unexpected generous financial donation in support of further development of our association. Thank you so very much!
Henry Kurylewski
