June 2022 Report
It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through 2022 – time flies when you’re having fun!
Following our call for expressions of interest to fill the casual vacancy of Treasurer of our Association, I welcome Adam Zarański to the role. Adam’s wealth of professional experience in corporate governance will serve the Management Committee well, offering steady counsel and a fresh set of eyes to consider the running of our Association.
Have you seen our new website? (Click here: Polonia) It’s taken a while to develop our new look and I encourage everyone to explore the broad contents which, at this stage, are in English only but we are now working on the Polish version and hopefully that will go live in the not too distant future!
From the beginning of July, we are starting a children’s colouring competition that will feature a new image each month. Pictures must be coloured-in by children whilst at the club. At the end of each month, a winner will be selected and will win a free children’s meal from the restaurant. Entry forms will be available from the staff. Happy colouring!
Our plans to hold a fund-raiser in February were thwarted however we are going full steam ahead with our new event to assist with the maintenance costs of our Rathdowney property “Zakopane”, so save the date for “Zabawa Zakopiańska”, Saturday, 9th July starting at 7pm and going through to midnight. Why not make a night of it and enjoy dinner in our restaurant before the Zabawa? Phone bookings are essential so call: 3369 2747.
As a bit of fun, everyone is encouraged to dress up Polish mountaineer style. DJ Bonio will be sure to keep you dancing all night long with your favourite tunes which you can register online via this link: DJ Bonio requests. We will be selling warm mulled wine on the night and included in your ticket will be a table share platter with bread, smalec, Polish sausage, cheese and ogórki (Polish dill pickled cucumber). In order to help us with catering, please pre-book your tickets or call Ala Tabor 0417 737 595.
The next Polonia Market Day on Saturday, 16th July. Doors open to the public at 9am and we will be open until 1pm (or until sold out). Pre-orders of continental smallgoods from Krakus
may be placed in the usual manner. Our range of stalls will feature regular favourites and we’ll be grilling krańskis in the beer garden, with the downstairs bar open from 10am. Our restaurant will be open from 11am until 2pm and then again from 5pm until 9pm. We encourage you to reserve a table by calling 3369 2747 if you would like to dine in with us this Saturday. The Library will be open from 9am until midday.
We are still searching for motivated and experienced casual Kitchen Staff, Front-of-House (Maître d’) Staff and Wait Staff. If you know of anyone interested in work on a casual “as-needed” or roster basis, in particular for Friday and Saturday shifts, please invite them to make contact via: [email protected]. Polish language skills are advantageous but not essential.
As July begins, our Membership Renewal drive is in full swing and we encourage you all to renew your Polonia membership. Information about renewing your membership is available on our new website. Click here for “Membership”. You can also renew in person at the Club.
Our growth over the past year has been remarkable: more than 820 members have joined Polonia – and we hope to maintain and increase that number going forward. I trust you will continue to support Polonia on our journey into the future by renewing your membership. Please also encourage family and friends who have not yet joined to consider becoming members and enjoy the same benefits you do.
